Inserting a Flash animation into a PowerPoint presentation
Flash animations are not only intended for the Web. The day-to-day activities of a small business, like those of a corporation, depend on a solid communication structure, both internally and externally.
Enhance your PowerPoint presentations with by inserting high-quality professional animations.
Just follow these nine easy steps :
Start by clicking on the
Windows Office button (the round button in the top left corner). A drop-down
menu will appear with the saving and printing options. Then click the
PowerPoint Options button at the bottom right. |
The PowerPoint options menu
is displayed as illustrated here. Make sure that you are in the “Standard”
section of this menu. Check the “Show the Developer Tab in the Ribbon” option,
then click OK. |
A new tab called
“Developer” will appear in the top menu bar of your screen. Click this tab and
the following submenu will appear. |
Click the “Other Controls”
button (hammer and wrench icon). A list of more controls will appear. Scroll
down to find “Shockwave Flash Object,” select it, then click OK. |
The cursor becomes a cross. Click and drag the cursor to create a placeholder with a big “X” inside where your Flash animation will be inserted. Don't worry too much about the shape: the placeholder can be resized later. Now, right click on the placeholder, and select “Properties” from the contextual menu that appears. |
The following window will
appear on the left-hand side of your screen. Make sure that “EmbedMovie” and
“Playing” have the “True” status. |
Find your file on your computer using Windows Explorer and copy/paste the file path plus the name of the file preceded by the \ slash. An example of a path: C:\DocumentsandSettings\SWF and add \doudou.swf. The final file path should look like this: C:\DocumentsandSettings\SWF\doudou.swf. Make sure the .swf extension appears at the end of the file, or this procedure will not work. Paste the file path in the empty “Movie” space in the “Properties” window (see illustration in step 6). Attention : if you move your file to another location on your computer, you will have to repeat this step to get the new file path. |
After pasting the file
path, save your PowerPoint file and close it. |
Open your PowerPoint file. Your
animation will not be visible at first, but do not worry, this is normal. |
You can see your animation in PowerPoint slideshow presentation mode, as if you were viewing it on the Web.
Your PowerPoint presentation is now optimized for viewing by a large audience consisting of clients, suppliers, potential customers, associates, etc. Not only is your presentation more vibrant and attractive but it will also capture the attention of your audience while making your company look more professional.
To insert more animations, just repeat steps 4 to 8.
Here is another way to insert the file path:
If you save your PowerPoint and Flash files in the same folder, you can simply enter the name of the file instead of the entire file path. As long as both files remain in the same folder, they will continue to function together, even if sent in an email.
