To allow users to interact with the 3D object easily, we needed to make the product look like it was naturally moving in a gravity-free space. For this we use a mathematic model of the 19th century: Hamilton's Quaternions. Hamilton determined an ensemble of numbers modelizing the changing orientation of an object relatively to a static plan. Since then, his theory has proven to be very efficient as it is still used in the video game industry as well as in the Aerospace industry.
To comply with this model, PackshotViewer, automatically generates several scripts ordering the call of a given image relatively both to the mouse deplacement and to the name of the images. Languages used is mainly JavaScript, combined with Silverlight application and XML files.

Silverlight-based animations also have the possibility to embed annotations and animation-display scenarii. When created, the 360 or 3D object is delivered jointly to an XML file, in which some additional information can be included. Silverlight is able to display comments and annotations, taking them from the XML file, simultaneously to the animation display and execution.

The Xap files generated by the software when creating a Silverlight animation handles the sequences of views. If the author decides that animations should start with a front side view, then a back side view, and finally with a side view, he will be able to decide exactly the time elapsed between each view, and the order they will follow. Once again, the XML is central, and handles interaction between scripts and contents.

The point about deepzoom is directly linked to bandwidth. Zooming with an adapted level of image quality means HD pictures and loading HD pictures means bandwidth consumption. To avoid too long loading times we had 2 possibilities: deploy fiber internet access everywhere, or find a real solution. We already experienced the use of dynamic image distribution with PackshotLive, and found out that this was a realistic yet efficient solution. Thus PackshotViewer is able to integrate in its animation a dynamic zoom distribution. This means that the browser (or the viewer) does not have to load the whole HD image to display the zoomed point, but only a tiled part of the image which has been dynamically identified through the mouse position, and served thanks to pre-tiled series of images (for Flash animations) or to an on-the-fly cut piece of image for HTML5 or Silverlight animation. Thus the image loaded weighs approximately 1/6th of the original image.
