Automated photography solutions comparison: Orbitvu Alphashot XL PRO V2 vs PackshotCreator R3 Mark II (Ortery 3D PhotoBench 280)

As an experienced photography consultant, I was asked by PackshotCreator to carry out an automated photography solutions comparison. PackshotCreator, was created by Laurent Wainberg more than twenty years ago. He was at the origin of the first “Packshot” photographic studio and has been continuously innovating in this field ever since. The aim of the tests was to validate the technological advance of the Orbitvu Alphashot XL PRO V2 against the PackshotCreator R3 Mark II, also marketed under the name Ortery 3D PhotoBench 280. This tests were realized in order to confirm the relevance of PackshotCreator’s strategic choices. They also want to ensure the distribution of the best automated shooting solutions on the market.

As a reminder, the production of packshot photography is a process characterised by a discontinuous workflow that requires high productivity and repeatability.

 

Methodology of the automated photography solutions comparison:
Each test was carried out with precision and methodological rigour, in the presence of a bailiff to guarantee the authenticity and integrity of the results. We measured the time required to produce various visuals, essential elements for customers in the world of e-commerce and online product management.

We tested Orbitvu’s Alphashot XL PRO V2, a versatile system equipped with it’s dedicatd Multi-Camera Rig and five Canon RP cameras. Configuration was the same for Ortery’s 3D PhotoBench 280. Each system was assessed for its ability to create 3D animation from scratch, using features such as background removal, natural shadow and interactive 360°  HTML5 animation.

Details of tests carried out:
The analysis focused on five critical tests, comparing production times and net times, including product positioning. Here are the key results and what they mean in concrete terms for customers:

To create a 360° animation with 12 photos:

PackshotCreator/Ortery: 115 seconds (net 175)
Orbitvu: 80 seconds (net 140)

– Implications for the customer: A net saving of 35 seconds per animation which, in a mass production context, translates into a much higher volume of visuals generated in a working day.

Customer benefit: A reduction of 142 seconds per animation means greater efficiency for high-volume projects, significantly reducing costs and production times.

In the creation of a 3D animation with 12 photos (5 rows):

PackshotCreator/Ortery: 388 seconds (net 448)
Orbitvu: 108 seconds (net 168)

Customer benefits: an impressive 280 seconds per product, which has a direct impact on delivery times of the visuals and customer satisfaction, particularly for urgent requests.

For a more complex 3D animation with 48 photos (5 rows):

PackshotCreator/Ortery: 1521 seconds (net 1581)
Orbitvu: 369 seconds (net 429)

Customer benefits: The time saved is enormous, making it possible to complete large-scale projects in a fraction of the usual time – a real revolution in terms of productivity.

For 360° video:

PackshotCreator/Ortery: 29 seconds (net 89)
Orbitvu: 26 seconds (net 86)

Customer benefits: Even for smaller time savings, Orbitvu’s consistent performance ensures that customers can plan and optimise their operations more effectively.

Quantifiable benefits:
Theoretical calculations for studio use at 100% of operational time reveal that:

– Number of visuals created per day: Orbitvu can create up to 78 visuals contents per day, compared to 33 for PackshotCreator/Ortery, which more than doubles daily productivity.

– Annual visuals: With Orbitvu, this equates to 19734 visuals contents per year, compared with 8457 for PackshotCreator/Ortery, demonstrating a significant increase in annual production capacity.

– Saved working days: Using Orbitvu can save up to 50.6 working days per year, giving studios a much higher operational margin.

– Annual financial savings: Studios using Orbitvu could see savings of around €12,346.4 per year compared to PackshotCreator/Ortery, representing a considerable financial advantage.

Then, here are the key findings and their impact on customers of automated product photography:
